This intro-level course will give students an understanding of the basic biological world that surrounds them each day of their lives.  Lecture topics to be covered include scientific method, cellular biology, chemistry of life, ecology, genetics, and a survey of the kingdoms.  Laboratory exercises will include proper techniques of microscope use as we view both fixed slides of plant and animal cells and wet mounts of single-celled organisms, DNA extraction from common fruits, dissections of at least four specimens from within the animal kingdom, and more. An off-campus fieldtrip to the HudsonAlpha Institute in Research Park is also planned, if COVID restrictions have been lifted.

There is a one-time $20 lab fee payable to LCA before the school year starts.
