Course Description

*This class is not full. Students will be moved from the waiting list after following steps outlined below.*

The purpose of Nonfiction Writing is to help students develop engaging and effective writing. Students will study the writing process, journalistic writing, essay writing, and other writing disciplines as needed. Students will read effective writing examples and edit ineffective writing. Students will also workshop their writing as a team, learning to both give and accept helpful suggestions.

Students should expect 1-1.5 hours of homework outside of class, most of which will be writing. 
In lieu of a prerequisite, each student must submit a short writing sample to Mrs. Leedy to be approved for enrollment. Email Mrs. Leedy at jonna.leedy@lifechristianacademy.org for a writing prompt.

Course Description Intro to ASL introduces American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture. Students will learn to communicate via vocabulary, grammatical structures, fingerspelling, and non-manual markers. Students will also practice receptive skills in class.

Course Description This course is for students who want to explore the art and technique of photography. We will begin by covering the basics of photography, including camera settings, lighting, and exposure. We will also study the elements of composition to help students develop a strong visual style. Throughout the course, we will examine examples from past photographers. Students will explore multiple genres of photography, including:
- Action Photography – Capturing movement and energy
- Black & White Photography – Creating dramatic effects through contrast and structure
- Portrait Photography – Expression through lighting and poses
- Journalistic Photography – How images can tell more powerful stories

Course Description Speaking in front of a class can seem terrifying, but Brave Voices will make it fun!

Students will build public speaking confidence and communication skills through fun, interactive, and age-appropriate activities. Topics will range from show-and-tell to storytelling to memorizing short scripts for duet acting or reader’s theater. Students will also give shorts presentations over topics such as “My Favorite Holiday,” “My Pet is Awesome Because…,” and “An Important Person in the Bible.”

Course Description

God in His Own Words exposes students to the practice of studying the Bible in its original language. Students will learn to use the interlinear Bible, concordances, and lexicons to explore the full meanings of key words and phrases in their original Greek and Hebrew. The year will begin with studying God’s character in His own Hebrew words from Exodus 34:6-7. 

Students must download the Bible Hub app to complete all homework assignments.

This class is worth .5 high school credits. Expect up to an hour of homework each week.
