Laura Ingalls, Sarah Noble, Wanda Petronski, Jane Moffat, Imogene Herdman, and Henny Taylor. Some of these girls and more could be your daughters’ new friends as we form a girls’ book club. We will read stories together in class (and possibly some out of class) that will *hopefully* help spark a love of reading in your daughters while also gently teaching them the classical approach to studying literature. We will explore the settings and the character traits we see portrayed. We will decipher the conflicts and themes as we join in the Great Conversation about universal subjects that people have contemplated for generations but all within the grade-level adventures we’ll delve into this year. Girls in this class need to be mostly independent readers. |

Course Description |
Fall Semester: It's election year! But does your student understand the election process? During the fall semester, we'll be studying the history, branches, and offices in our government. We'll discuss the differences between caucuses and primaries and even figure out what the Electoral College is all about. We'll be making lapbook-type projects that will help solidify what we learn in class and then even hold our own election! Spring Semester: Students will become detectives as they help discover who stole Dutch Delight Chocolates’ recipe of their brand-new chocolate bar! We’ll be deducing which of the 9 suspects are guilty by using logic and reasoning skills. Not only will we investigate the suspects’ (and our own) fingerprints, but we’ll also wade through valid and invalid assumptions, generalizations, and motives, all while enjoying some tasty, chocolatey treats along the way. *Allergy warning: Chocolate will be served regularly in this class.
