Course Description	Storybook Explorers will take students on a journey through the in-depth study of two literary classics: A Bear Called Paddington and Mr. Popper's Penguins. Students will work on fluency through shared in-class reading. Each chapter we will build new vocabulary and use critical thinking through class discussion questions. We will also bring our novels to life through hands-on enrichment projects focused on creative writing, geography, art and themed celebrations at the conclusions of the each study. Students will need their own copy of each novel.  These studies will be based on the Memoria Press Literature Guides for each novel. There are samples on their website if you would like to see the level of vocabulary and examples of possible enrichment activities. We will not be using any of the quizzes/tests.

Course Description	As we prepare to celebrate our country's 250th Birthday, this course invites students to step into the roles of citizens, lawmakers, cabinet members, and legal experts to explore the heart beat of American government. We will begin by learning about the origins of our constitutional democracy including a Constitutional Convention simulation. We will then dive into each of the three branches of government and gain a deeper understanding of each through a series of hands on activities: a Mock Congress; Brief the Chief simulation; and a Mock Trial (The Big Bad Wolf v. The Three Little Pigs). There will be a small amount of research homework so students are prepared for their in class hands on activities.
