| Course Description |
The high school version of Brain Aerobics is similar to a chess club, but with many more games in addition to chess. The Brain Aerobics Class/Club includes elected officers and service projects. The primary focus of Brain Aerobics is to help the students develop their critical thinking skills in a fun and engaging way. Games and critical thinking puzzles will be utilized to work on spatial reasoning, logic, deductive reasoning, and strategic reasoning. The students will learn more than 30 games over the course of the year, but a special emphasis will be placed on chess and learning its strategies and techniques. Each semester, one of the club's goals will be to organize and host two service projects (utilizing games if possible) -- one that serves the students of LCA and another that works alongside a local ministry to those in need. No textbook required. High School Credit Earned: 0.5 Homework time expected: 0 – 0.5 hrs./week (Club officers & those helping them will occasionally have work to do outside of class.) Total estimated student time: 1-1.5 hrs./week plus 3-5 hrs. per semester per service project |
